We'll be in touch with the latest information on how President Biden and his administration are working for the American people, as well as ways you can get involved and help our country build back better. And that’s what we’ve seen from Republicans continuing — like, when they put out their budget recently, that’s what they’re doing. As it relates to the bill — the law now — there’s time. There are already American investors who are — who are willing and are interested in buying TikTok. And so, that’s what members of Congress moved forward with.

Getting this bill passed entailed months of advocacy, hands-on work by President Biden himself, by his White House team, by his national security team, and countless briefings, meetings, hearings by departments and agencies across our government for the Congress in both the House and the Senate. As the President has consistently made clear, public officials, including judges, must be able to do their jobs without concern for their personal safety or that of their families. And any violence threats — threats of violence or attempts to intimidate justices have no place in our society. He has said that himself, and we have been forceful from the podium many times. In 2015, she returned to the White House as communications director and stayed through the end of the Obama administration. "Karine not only brings the experience, talent and integrity needed for this difficult job, but she will continue to lead the way in communicating about the work of the Biden-Harris Administration on behalf of the American people," Biden said in a statement announcing the news.
Biden names Karine Jean-Pierre as White House press secretary
Jean-Pierre served as Regional Political Director for the White House Office of Political Affairs during the Obama-Biden administration and as Deputy Battleground States Director for President Obama’s 2012 re-election campaign. Today, President Biden announced Karine Jean-Pierre has been promoted to be Assistant to the President and White House Press Secretary. Karine will step into the Press Secretary role replacing Jen Psaki, who will depart from the White House on May 13. It’s — it’s a concern that majority of Americans have. And so, we want to see that move forward. And I think Mitch McConnell spoke for himself on that.

I’m not going to speculate or speak to any of the reportings that are out there at this time. I’m going to say it now, though I know you all will — will certainly ask me about it, that we do not have any comment on the reports at this time. Obviously, you all heard from Secretary Blinken earlier this morning. And finally, I know there’s a lot — a lot of interest in reports from the Middle East overnight, and we understand that. They need to ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, require safe storage of guns, pass a national red-flag law, and invest in proven solutions that reduce violence, also enact universal background checks. We’ve also made the largest investment in youth mental health in American history.
If tests are required, there’s a number of steps and we’re — that people can take, and we’re working to expand that as quickly as possible. Now, at the same time, we know that online and in retail stores across the country they are restocking shelves with tests. We are continuing to open more federal testing sites, as we have done in New York and different cities that have been hardest hit across the country. And we continue to have 20,000 free sites across the country. What we’ve done is try to do this as quickly as possible through an expedited, accelerated contracting process to ensure that tests are available for free to people across the country as quickly as possible.

That is saving American families with two cars about 130 bucks a month on average. According to an industry analyst, the most common price at gas stations across the country is now $3.49 per gallon. We’ve also been — we’ve also seen continued progress bringing down prices at the pump.
So, from our perspective, now that we’ve resolved our readiness concerns, being able to step up and provide our own capabilities to Ukraine, as partners of ours have — the UK, the French, others — we think it’s appropriate to do at this moment. We think it is a good capability in this phase of the conflict for Ukraine, and we will stand behind that four-square. So, we think it’s good that we’re able to provide them, but I don’t expect to stand before you and say one capability has — has been the silver bullet in this conflict.

All of that, I think, should pave the way for a good-faith effort on the part of every country, every stakeholder in the Americas — Brazil included — to take the necessary action and the necessary responsibility. We’ll see what President Bolsonaro comes to the table with on his side. He supports the LEAF Coalition, which is all about a public-private effort to compensate landowners for not cutting down forests.
You know, President Biden spoke with Prime Minister Netanyahu a little more than two weeks ago. And in the time that has unfolded since his conversation with Prime Minister Netanyahu, we have seen a marked increase in the amount of humanitarian assistance that has gone into Gaza and, importantly, a very significant increase in the amount of assistance that has gone to Northern Gaza, where the U.N. And others had told us the challenges of malnutrition and potential famine were most acute. Until recently, as we’ve said on many occasions, we were unable to provide these ATACMS because of readiness concerns.
For these projects, Micron established two project labor agreements at the New York and Idaho sites for construction of new fabrication facilities. These agreements will ensure that projects are completed efficiently and on time, while also supporting high-quality jobs. The President — as the President, he’s the president for everybody, obviously, and he’s going to be running for reelection, asking for the votes from everybody. And so — and we’re — you know, we’re going to do our best. The President is going to continue to work very hard to make sure that we lower those costs when we think about food and we think about gas prices. And we are already — we already begin to see this happen in a range of measures. For example, core PCE, which is the inflation measure the Fed watches most closely, was around 4 percent at an — at an annualized rate in the last three months and is down from 6 percent annualized in the last months before that. I have to tell you, I missed — I missed that interaction because I was preparing to come back out for my second briefing in front of you all.
So, as you know, this afternoon, the Vice President will convene par- — pardon recipients and criminal justice reform advocate Kim Kardashian for a roundtable discussion to highlight the administration’s Second Chance policies during Second Chance Month. Now, look, it seems like Hamas just keeps wanting to move the goalposts. They could end the war now, and if they really believed in a state for the Palestinian people, they wouldn’t have violated the — the ceasefire that was in effect on the 6th of October, they’d lay down their arms, they’d let the hostages go. This announcement is part of the President’s broader commitment to build an economy from the middle out and bottom up, not the top down, and invest in all of America. So, we’re on our way to Syracuse, where President Biden will announce — oh — oh, it’s very loud back there. The source also told The Post that Dunn had claimed White House chief of staff Jeff Zients knew about and supported the cloak-and-dagger scheme to push Jean-Pierre out of the West Wing.
And so, we’re going to let that process be. Look, we do not want to see that type of — any — any civilians — any innocent civilian’s life taken. “Karine not only brings the experience, talent and integrity needed for this difficult job, but she will continue to lead the way in communicating about the work of the Biden-Harris Administration on behalf of the American people. Jill and I have known and respected Karine a long time and she will be a strong voice speaking for me and this Administration.
Looking back at the last 15 months and 244 briefings, Psaki said she was "very nervous" when she first visited the Bidens in Delaware in November 2020, saying the majority of that conversation was about "the importance of returning integrity, respect, and civility to the White House." Ms. Psaki’s last day as press secretary will be May 13. She is expected to take an on-air role with MSNBC. I talked about the humanitarian aid that’s needed.
This is — the President wants to protect Americans. He w- — he wants to protect Americans’ privacy. He wants to protect Americans from coun- — a country, in this — in this instance, that wants to potentially do us harm. And that’s what he believes is important. The President earlier today said the 2017 tax bill that was passed under President Trump — if he is reelected — if President Biden is reelected, it would be dead and gone forever.
And, you know, we are insisting that that happen, in addition to ensuring the safety and protection of the people of Rafah. So, you put all that together and I think the calculus of the Russians or the critics of Ukraine who say, “Time is on Russia’s side” — they’ve got it wrong. We believe that the structural dynamics of this conflict favor the country defending its own territory.
